Yay Us!

As part of HQ’s One Million Hours of Service program, we recently received this certificate of recognition for our group’s contribution. Congratulations to everyone who participated in our projects this year! We’re looking forward to the 2012-13 (home)school year.

A Message from HQ

Dear Hillary,

Over two decades ago, Dr. Jane and a small group of young
Tanzanian students, started what has become a global movement of
young people dedicated to creating a better world: Jane Goodall’s
Roots & Shoots.

Writing from Tanzania this week, Dr. Jane herself, wanted to share a message with
about the the 21st anniversary of Roots & Shoots. In her message, Dr. Jane writes
about the impact of Roots & Shoots, and how it is due in large part to the hopeful
vision that each young member carries.

Read Dr. Jane’s Message Here.

You are a part of the Roots & Shoots movement, and as we head into continue this
year, our 21st anniversary year, we congratulate you and we thank you for all your
hard work and effort.

What’s your hopeful vision for the years ahead? What does a Roots
& Shoots vision look like to you? Can you see a cleaner
environment? Communities that are better for people and animals?

As we celebrate the 21st anniversary this year, we invite you to
share your vision with Dr. Jane, and the whole network. Once
again, thank you and congratulations.

Share your hopeful vision for a better world on Twitter and Facebook. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #rsvision!

We’re the Group of the Month!

Zoe and I were recently contacted by the National Roots & Shoots org to let us know that our very own Hudson Valley Homeschool Roots & Shoots group had received another great honor: Group of the Month for November 2011! Now we have another snazzy certificate to display:

PLUS, our group has now been featured in a profile on the national site! Check it out!

Special thanks to all the moms who responded so quickly and enthusiastically to our call for model release forms (good learning experience to ask for those regularly in the future!)! They went with the group photo we took at our November Photo Workshop. Plus, one from last year’s beach clean-up.

And thanks to Benny and Emma, who also answered the interview questions! The deadline was a little too fast for our group, and it seems they were only able to use those answers that were in *exactly* on time. Sigh. But Zoe and I enjoyed reading your answers, too!

Thanks to everyone in the Hudson Valley homeschool community for your continued participation in and support of the group! We love to love the world with you!

Happy New Year from Roots & Shoots!

At this time of the year, we at the Jane Goodall Institute always think about the wonderful things
that our members and friends have done in their communities and around the world.

Your projects on the ground are, every day, helping to improve the environment, and
raise the quality of life for animals and people. And now with 20 years of these efforts,
the impact that Roots & Shoots, has made is huge! We couldn't be more proud of
you, and appreciate everything you do.

Looking forward to 2012, we are excited to introduce many new initiatives,
resources, and even a brand new website.

We'll send more details about what's on the horizon in the coming weeks, but for now
I wanted to leave you with this amazing video from our friends at JGI's Tchimpounga
Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center in Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo, Africa.

On behalf of Dr. Jane and the entire Jane Goodall Institute we wish you a happy and
healthy holiday season, and a wonderful new year.

going to be.

We’re Famous!

We’re super-excited to announce that our recent Ecosystem Studies project has been selected by Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots to receive the Project of the Week award!  We got this snazzy certificate to display:

Project of the Week Certificate[1](2)

Plus, our movie about ecosystems, ZoeTV Episode 1, is now being featured on the Roots & Shoots website as the Project of the Week!  Check it out!

October 14, 2011
The Hudson Valley Home School R&S (NY) group was interested in learning more about ecosystems and environmentalism so they contacted two local environmental education organizations about their kids’ programs. They participated in special programs that illustrated two different ecosystems, and how weather events affect them. After becoming “ecosystem experts”, they put the information together as an educational program on their group’s blog.

Thanks again to everyone who participated!  We hope to see you all again soon!

Love the world!

-Hillary and Zoe

Happy Birthday, Roots & Shoots!
